Scope and ContentHard-bound volume of original letters with typed transcripts of some of the letters enclosed within. The volume was previously owned by Miss J. de Gaudrion Merrifield and then bought by Price at Sothebys on 22 December 1936 for £17.
Letters within the volume are:
- Robert Browning to Miss M.A. de Gaudrion (1855) and Elizabeth Barrett Browning to Miss M.A. de Gaudrion (1855) concerning spiritualism and Daniel Dunglas Home's séance, which the Brownings attended and was the inspiration for Robert Browning's poem 'Mr Sludge' written to Miss M.A. de Gaudrion.
- Daniel Dunglas Home to: Mr Wreford (c 1864); Mr Cook (1868); not addressed (1864; French); to 'a friend' (2 letters; 1881). One of these has an engraving of Home's wife, Sacha; to S.L. Blanchard (c 1860; 2 letters); S.C. Hall (1881); there is also Home's receiving card with dates and times.
- William Howitt to Mr Trollope (1876)
- Frederick Weeks to Mr Blanchard (1880)

- 1 envelope containing correspondence between George Bernard Shaw and William Marriott (1912; 2 letters);
- 1 envelope containing a card from Sotheby & Co's for the purchase of the volume for £17 on 22 December 1936 and a card with details about the volume.
