Giacomo Antonio Perti, composer, was born in Bologna, Italy. He was the nephew of Lorenzo Perti, maestro di cappella at the Cathedral of San Pietro in Bologna, whom he succeeded in 1690. Perti also held similar posts at San Petronio (1696-1756), San Domenico (1704-1755) and San Maria in Galleria (1706-50). Perti composed twenty six operas, including 'Dionision Siracusano' and 'La Rosaura', although most of these have been lost. He also composed twenty oratorios, although he is best known for his sacred vocal music, most composed for San Petronio, including Masses, Psalms, motets, hymns, antiphons and Magnificat settings. He died in 1756.

Luigi Mareschalchi is credited with a revival in music publishing in Italy. He issued c70 vocal and instrumental works in Venice in the 1770s, before establishing a music printing concern in Naples (1786-99), which was protected by Royal warrant. The business was destroyed by rioters in 1799 and Mareschalchi was exiled. In addition to publishing, he wrote a number of operas, including 'Il tutore ingannato' (1775), and thirty ballets. He died in Marseilles in 1812.
