(i) Urges Chadwick to enter the House of Commons - 'we want practical men, men who will dare to think for themselves, and maintain their opinions'; with part of the envelope, bearing stamps and the address (31 October 1879).
(ii) Describes how Le Mare is 82 years old and nearly blind. To write, he uses 'a frame of woodwork with a frame of wire work laid upon it with thin bars across to keep the lines straight (7 November 1879).
