Scope and ContentThis is one manuscript and two typescript copies of Jura Soyfer's (JS) "Dachauer Lied" in German and two copies of the poem translated into English by John Lehmann (JL). The poem was written by JS when he was imprisoned in Dachau concentration camp in 1938, and it was set to music by Herbert Zipper, who was also in the camp. The manuscript copy has two handwritten corrections to the text, and there are a few differences between this text and the version published in JS's "Gesamtwerk" (1984). The poem circulated among Austrians who were exiled in England, and it was published in London in November 1939 by Young Austria. JL translated the "Dachauer Lied" soon after it was recited to him by Hugo Ebner, JS's fellow prisoner, and published it in his series "New Writing", in volume 8, July 1941. It was published under the pseudonym of Georg Anders with the title "Song of the Austrians". It is not known whether the poem was also recited publicly by any of the exile theatre groups.
