Reference codeMiller/6/1/1
Datec1926-1939
Scope and ContentThis file contains an album labelled "Zeitungsausschnitte" (Newspaper cuttings) which is labelled on the first verso "H. [?]Splietfhoff, [?]Blobel & Ulrich. Berlin W15 Joachimsthalerstr 36". The album contains mainly newspaper cuttings of reviews of productions in which Martin Miller (MM) acted or which he directed between 1921 and 1938 in a variety of theatres and locations, most of which do not give the original source, that is, the name of the publication from which the cutting was taken. The cuttings include: articles from the "Jüdisches Nachrichtenblatt" dated January and February 1939, reporting respectively on a production of "Die Fee " by Franz Molnar by the Jüdischer Kulturbund and the actor Rudolf Israel Müller [Martin Miller]; photograph cuttings of MM in "Der sprechende Affe" at the Reichenberg Stadttheatur [undated] and in "Jud Süss" at the Jüdisches Kulturtheater in Vienna in 1937 with captions in Hebrew and Yiddish; a review in Yiddish of a production of "Die Grenze. Ein Schicksal unter 600.000" ("The Border. One fate amongst 600,000") [translated from Danish and adapted by Awrum Halbert (under the pseudonym Albert Ganzert)], performed at the Jüdische Kulturtheater in Vienna in 1936; and further articles on MM's performances at the Neues Theater, the Jüdisches Kulturtheater, the Theater der Volkshochschule, the cabaret theatres Literatur am Naschmarkt and Der Regenbogen [all in Vienna]; the Stadttheater in Reichenberg [Liberec] and in Aussig [Ústí nad Labem] and the Deutsches Theater in Mährisch-Ostrau [Ostrava] [all in Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic]. There is also a poor-quality photograph cutting of MM with a caption stating that he had read a work by Schiller for the "Prager deutsche Sendung" [Prague's German-language radio programme], undated but probably from the early 1930s.The album also contains cuttings of publicity material and newspaper reviews relating to MM's work in the exile theatre, Das Laterndl, in London.
